Used for diagnosis: A bronchial wash is a way of retriving cells and micro organisms that are related to a lung condition associated with an illness. They are obtained during bronchoscopy and sent to the lab for cell analysis and cultures. They can be very helpfull in diagnosis avoiding an open lung biopsy.
