Painful & damaging: Ritual female genital mutilation is still widespread in many african countries, the middle east, and certain populations in indonesia, malaysia, and europe. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs241/en/ it is usually carried out between infancy and age 15. Reconstructive surgery is often needed. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_126174.html ptsd may result also.
