Collecting items for no reason?

Hoarding.: This sounds like a hoarding problem. This is a growing problem becoming more common throughout the country. People become attached to many items that would otherwise be thrown out or not obtained. Many times it is done to take the place of something lost, or to remind a person of smoeone who has died, or for some other reason. It is wise to see a doctor for counseling and psychiatric help.
