Yes: Long term use of opioids can result in hormone imbalances, osteoporosis, impotence, as well as other systemic effects. There is always the risk for abuse and addiction. Relying on opioids for chronic pain management is a personal choice and is justified if their use improves your overall function and quality of life. I would hope that the physician prescribing the medications have outlined these.

Tolerance and..: ..Dependence. The need for ever increasing amounts of Oxycontin to provide the same relief, and the ever increasing need for Oxycontin as you become "dependent." there is no upside to long-term narcotic usage and, as others have said, the harmful physiological and biochemical effects keep mounting over time. Best to work your way off of them with professional help. Good luck!
