What type of knee brace should be used for a pulled muscle and possibly arthritis?

No brace for muscle: Braces can be effective for knee arthritis. The most common brace used is called a valgusunloader brace used to correct misalignment in those with arthritis of the medial compartment & a bowlegged misalignment. Others are available for arthritis behind the kneecap or on the lateral side. I don't typically use a brace did a minor muscle pull; also, muscle pulls are rarely the cause of knee pain.

Depends: Would suggest making decision based on X-ray results. If there is degeneration noted on x-ray, is it worse in the medial or lateral compartment of the knee? This would determine if you need a medial or lateral unloader brace.
