No sure fire methods: Requires a great deal of determination. Try multiple methods: nicotine replacement, exercise, electric cigarettes, educate yourself on the hazards of smoking, make it more difficult to get to your cigarettes (e.g., keep them in the trunk of your car). Imagine how the quality of your life will improve when you quit and that you will be around to watch grandkids grow up! good luck!

Ignore failure: Yes. Discuss with your doctor. Use multiple strategies e.g., nicotine replacement, smoking cessation meds, behavioral approaches. And if you don't succeed, ignore failure and try again, and again, and again, until you succeed. Don't let failure sap your self-esteem. If it were really easy to quit, it wouldn't be an addiction.
