Nicotine=addictive: When people first start smoking cigarettes, they do often get "high" and "euphoric." nicotine is one of the drugs that causes tolerance at its receptor - where more and more is needed over time and does less and less, so doses are escalated, and when stopped abruptly results in withdrawal - irritability, muscle spasms, insomnia, trouble concentrating. This is addiction.
