Yes: If you work hard after shoulder replacement surgery you should get back most of you motion, have excellent pain relief and get most of your function back, which is the ability to perform activities of daily living.

Pretty close: Your function is likely quite poor of you are considering a total shoulder arthroplasty (tsa). Like hip and knee replacement, tsa is a very good operation with excellent pain relieve. Unlike the hip and knee, which have limited motion, the shoulder is more flexible. Your range of motion will likely be less than a normal joint, but you should be able to do almost anything you want.
