Many reasons: Excess body weight often leads to other medical problems, including an increased risk for: hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, diabetes, strokes, certain cancers, back problems, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, fatty liver disease, kidney problems, intestinal disorders, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, musculo-skeletal injuries, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, etc. Etc.

Health risks: Obesity can lead to reduced life expectancy and/or health problems. Body mass index (bmi) compares wt to ht; overweight bmi is 25-30 kg/m2; obese bmi is > 30 kg/m2. Obesity increases the likelihood of heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, some types of cancer, type 2 diabetes. If you are not overweight then you do not need to lose weight.
