A member asked:

Can you get over a hernia without surgery?

Sometimes: Unfortunately, once you develop a hernia, it never goes away unless surgically repaired; however, not all hernias require surgery. The decision to recommend surgery is dependent on the size and location of the hernia, the potential for complications to develop secondary to the hernia, and the health of the person with the hernia. Every surgical decision is made balancing risks vs. Benefits.

No: A hernia will not resolve on its own without surgery. However, a hernia may be stable and change little, or have no discomfort, and can be observed carefully after having a doctor's examination to be sure that observation may be an option for your specific situation.
