Low blood pressure: A brief sensation of lightheadedness or a faint feeling is most often due to low blood pressure, or to lowering of blood pressure with standing up. If it happens after standing up, before standing from lying down sit for a moment, and if it happens when standing from sitting, clench your calves before you stand. Always drink plenty of water.

Heart or brain: Dr dutka is correct regarding momentary heart beat pauses causing light-headedness of brief duration. Clinically, this is a much more frequent cause. However, simple partial seizures can do the same. You may need cardiac monitoring (including 24 hour) and/or eeg to fully diagnose the issue. Symptoms occurring with positional changes are more likely cardiac.
