Canker Sore Relief: If nothing else is at hand, use warm salt water to rinse and spit. Avoid citrus, acidic, and spicy foods. An md may prescribe diphenhydramine-antacid solution. Otc, i like the 10% carbamide peroxide available at any pharmacy. I tried it once and it worked great. Safe down to 2 years of age. Just apply directly to sore and spit out after 2-3 minutes.

You can help it...: The reality is that you just have to wait until the canker sores (aphthous ulcers) resolve, usually about a week. During that period i'd recommend to mask the tenderness with a topical anesthetic like infants teething gel. For adults, there are chemical cautery agents, but children usually will recover without it.

Palliaitive tx: A canker sore is self limiting and will resolve on its own in 7-10 days. Treatment is palliative in nature to help relieve discomfort. You could try a mouth rinse with a topical anesthetic in it or a topical paste if you can get a 3 year old to try it.
