What are some symptoms of ovarian cancer?

26 doctors weighed in across 15 answers

Bloating, fullness: Unfortunately, ovarian cancer often causes vague symptoms which are often mild so the patient is not brought to medical attention until the cancer is advanced. Some symptoms can include bloating, changes in urinary or bowel habits, a feeling of fullness, and increased abdominal size. These symptoms are often present daily.

Or none: One of the reasons that ovarian cancer has such a poor prognosis overall is that it usually does not cause symptoms and thus is not found until it has become fairly advanced and more difficult to treat. While it can cause vague spyoma as described most cases are asymptomatic until its had a chance to progress. If you have a concern or are at high risk genetically, talk to your md about screening.

Non specific: Symptoms of ovarian cancer are not specific. They often mimic other common conditions. These may include: abdominal pressure, fullness, swelling or bloating, pelvic discomfort or pain, persistent indigestion, gas or nausea, changes in bowel habits, such as constipation, changes in bladder habits, including a frequent need to urinate, loss of appetite or quickly feeling full, and low back pain.

Vague: Early ovarian cancer has only vague abdominal symptoms. Advanced cancers cause swelling of abdomen due to peritoneal involvement and fluid accummulation. There are also the usual symtoms of cancer, i.e., weight loss, weakness, .

Very few initially.: Ovarian cancer is hard to diagnose early due to the lack of symptoms initially and the non-specific symptoms which develop as the disease progresses. In general, symptoms can range from bloating, increasing abdominal size, nausea, decreased appetite, weight loss and pain.

Initially asymptomat: The classic epitherlia ovarian cancer is aymptomatic until metastasis occurs. The primary site of spread is to omentum due to high TGF-B. This allows vascular permeability factor to produce extensive ascites and when spread to uterus occurs then vaginal bleeding may be seen
