LSD: Lsd acts on serotonin receptors designated as 5-ht2, which are widespread. Effects are most prominent in two brain regions. 1 -- cerebral cortex, involved in mood, cognition, and perception. 2 -- locus coeruleus, which receives sensory signals from all areas of the body and may be the brain's "novelty detector" for important external stimuli. Sensory distortions result.
