How long to recover from laparoscopic appendectomy?

5 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Days-to-week(s): Following laparoscopic appendectomy, the recovery is primarily dependent on the severity of the appendicitis rather than the postoperative pain from surgery. Most people are home from the hospital in a day, feeling well enough to return to work in about a week, and back to full activities within 2 weeks.

Depends...: Recovery means different things to different people, and not all appendix surgeries are the same either. But, pain= a few days, sore=a week or 2, stiff=week or 2 more. Will you be able to run a marathon 2 weeks later? Depends...
