Find the cause: You need to work closely with a doctor for optimal management of a bleeding gastric ulcer. Ulcers form when the healthy lining becomes compromised and a host of issues including infection, medication, alcohol / tobacco intake, and host issue all come into play. Prolonged self treatment is unwise. Though unlikely for a 36 year old, some ulcers are due to tumor - both benign and malignant / cancer.

It depends: Bledding ulcers are not as common as they were 30 years ago due to the availability h-2 blockers (eg, tagamet, (cimetidine) xantac) and ppi's(prilosec) over the counter now. Bleeding ulcers are more commonly occurring from either acid imbalance or bacterial overgrowth(h-pylori). The vast majority can be treated with ppi's and antibiotics. Some may require endoscopic treatments. If bleeding is severe, surgery rar.
