Has different causes: Cauda equina syndrome is a serious condition due to compression of the nerves in the lower part of the spinal canal, and can be caused by different types of disorders. In many cases, surgery is needed to decompress the area. In some cases, such as with inflammatory causes of ces, doctors may try medical treatment with anti-inflammatories / steroids, and do surgery if the drugs don't work quickly.

Surgwry: Ces is rare, occurring in about one percent of disc herniations. When it occurs due to this reason, the only treatment indicated is surgery as soon as it is diagnosed to minimize the chance of permanent problems related to bowel/bladder control.
