Aphthous ulcer: It is probably an aphthous ulcer and will take 7-10 days to go away. Laser treatment by a dentist will eliminate the pain immediately and it will heal quickly as well.

Takes time: Mouth ulcers or canker sores can take a long time to heal. It usually takes 7 to 10 days or more for healing. You can relieve some symptoms with warm salt water rinse. I have tried otc products such as ambosol and another one that coats the sore, but haven't had much luck with them. They irritate the ulcer and make it take longer to heal. The only known cure for mouth ulcers is time.
