I keep getting a "stitch-like" pain in my upper left abdomen., up towards the sternum. it isn't constant, but has been happening throughout the day. what could this be?

Spasm: It is most likely a stitch, which is just another name for a muscle spasm. Frequently it's in the muscles between the ribs or the muscles that attach below the ribs. It is related to muscle fatigue, or overwork. Pain in the upper left abdomen. Also can be coming from the stomach or lower esophagus. This type can be a burning type discomfort or sometimes a sharp stabbing-like discomfort.

Agree with Dr. M: Regular exercise my help. Start slowly, as tolerated and gradually increase the time and intensity of exercise.
