A member asked:

What does it mean to be anaerobic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doing without oxygen: In medicine, anaerobic usually means anaerobic exercise, such as in the 100-meter race at the olympics. In that sprint, the runners don't get enough oxygen to their leg muscles, so the muscles work in a low-oxygen state during the sprint and recover shortly afterwards. The other medical meaning is anaerobic bacteria or infections, which are nasty germs that grow in low or no-oxygen environments.
