Anaerobes: This type of bacterial culture is designed to allow anaerobic bacteria to grow, that is, ones that grow in the absence of oxygen. Much of the bacterial microbiome in the mouth and intestines are in this category. Many bacteria are facultative, they can grow with or without oxygen, sort of ac-dc.
