Becoming common: Dysphagia is "difficult to swallow" reasons can be anatomic or related to enlarged thyroid but these days is commonly associated with reflux. Reflux is more common with heavy intake of caffeine, alcohol, acid or tomato based foods.

Dysphasia.: Dysphagia is reported to occur in 8% to 10% of the general population over the age of 50 years. [1] however, rates as high as 30% to 40% may be found in patients residing in homes for the aged. [2] [3] dysphagia can be caused by functional or structural abnormalities of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, or gastric cardias.
