Pintched nerve: Your description suggests a neuralgia or a sensation coming from a nerve irritated by compression as it leaves the spine. Frequently low back pain is due to that rather than kidney disease. Kidney pain is deeper and dull or colicky in nature and it can become very intense if you have a stone trying to pass.
