A member asked:

How effective is surgical treatment for a blocked tear duct?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very: In most children with dacryostenosis, or a clogged tear duct, no treatment or surgery is necessary. Most cases will resolve on their own. Warm compresses, duct massage, and treatment of superinfection is often all that is needed. However, in the small percentage of babies who require surgery or stenting, the prognosis is excellent, and treatment is effective.
