What is a "near-miss sids death"?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No one knows: There is a "pop" notion that infants who suddenly stop breathing ("apnea of infancy"; "apparent life-threatening event") have "almost died of sids". This generated much discussion but it turns out that these children are at no extra risk of actually dying than are other kids. Today, most folks don't use the term "near-miss sids".
