How do you take care of a deep gash?

Depends on depth: It really depends on the depth and tissues invovled. Deep wounds may require evaluation and surgery whereas others may heal satisfactorily with regular wound care cleansings and a moist dressing. A doctor can help you make this decision.

Cleanse and cover: Deep cuts should be thoroughly cleansed to minimize the risk for an infection. If the wound is bleeding excessively, cover and apply pressure and get professional treatment. You may need to have it sutured. The deeper the wound the greater the chance for an infection if not taken care of properly.
