A spur will NEVER: Go away on its own. 99% of the time if a heel is painful, the pain is from plantar fasciitis, not the spur itself and those spurs can stay forever, other spurs can occur on the foot. Those can cause plenty of pain and often need to be removed surgically.

If it : Is removed surgically. It does not disappear on its own. The good news is if you have pain, that can and often does go away with time and treatment.

Symptoms, not spur: The actual bone spur will never go away unless surgically removed. However, this is only necessary in the most severe cases. Usually, a heel spur is caused by excessive tension on the tendons on ligaments that attach to heel bone. If this tension is lessened with stretching and proper support, symptoms often resolve. There are many other methods to treat the symptomatology. See a podiatrist.

Not without surgery: Heel spurs are extra bone created from the pull of plantar fascial ligament at its insertion into the calcaneus. They will not go away unless removed surgically. If they do not hurt you and you can live with them then you do not need them removed surgically. Heel spurs rarely cause pain asssociated with plantar fasciitis.
