Sure it's safe, but: It won't hurt the baby now, but the more time children spend parked in front of a tv isn't good for them. It's never too early to start reading to them and letting older kids entertain themselves. There is a reason they call tvs "idiot boxes." good night moon.

Not a good idea: While not unsafe, it is not recommended. The american academy of pediatrics recommends that children <2yr watch no tv. This is because children watching tv are not learning to use their senses; they are passive. It is much better to become bored with looking at the same thing, so you reach for things, you learn to roll, crawl and vocalize. Studies show that tv watchers do not develop as fully.
