Smallpox: Take the child to another house or isolate the person with small pox. The spread of the disease is from fluid of the pox themselves.And the disease spread very slowly.

Odd statement: Smallpox has not been reported in the world since 2 lab associated cases in 1980. Perhaps you mean chickenpox. Baby would be at low risk if you ever had them.If not, being in the same room for half an hour is enough time to expose the infant.Best clarify the issue with your local doc.If it is really smallpox, the world needs to know.
