Discuss with PCP: Wide variability in concentration & focus is present in young children but there are some standardized scales like the vanderbilt & aseba that your pcp can have you & a preschool teacher or other observer fill out. These scales help us identify the kids that may have add/adhd or other issues. It can also comfort us when the kid scores in the normal range.

Assess: I agree with Dr. Ferguson. His pediatrician or family physician should be able to assess to determine if he is hyper like most five year old boys or if he had problems with focus and hyperactivity that are outside normal parameters.
