FOCUSING PROBLEM:: Talk to her teacher and discuss in detail. Talk to her pediatrician. Your child needs evaluation for attention deficiency disorder (add). Her pediatrician will give you adhd evaluation checklist to be filled out by her teacher/s and parent. Many times add/adhd kids get punished due to their academic under-performance or hyperactive/disruptive behavior. With treatment and support, they do well.

Possibly ADD : Add means attention deficit without the hyperactivity. It tends to be more common in girls and may get missed early on because there are no behavior problems. Even a smart child will begin to have trouble as school work gets harder. An evaulation with her primary and discussion with the teacher is the place to start.

70% of girls who : have ADHD have ADHD-Primarily Inattentive Type ( formerly ADD) which impacts their academic performance. After a valid diagnosis, multimodal treatment is as useful in managing symptoms that cause harmful dysfunction as it is in the other types of ADHD, even in academically gifted young ladies. For accurate information & resources, see CHADD.org. It is a quality of life issue.
