Why do I wake up with my heart racing after hot dream?

Probably 'begnin': The electrical system of the heart sends regular pulses to the heart muscle to signal it to contract. Many things can disturb this natural rhythm eg electrolyte abnormalities (low potassium or magnesium), excessive stimulants eg caffeine, alcohol, nasal decongestants, certain asociated conditions such as mvp (mitral valve prolapse), anxiety, hormonal fluctuations, dreams etc.

A 37-year-old member asked:
How can I tell if my heart is racing or just high hr?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Barton Cookanswered
Pediatric Cardiology 31 years experience
Situational: If your hr is high due to exercise, fever, excitement or anxiety, it may be simply a high hr. If you are at rest and have a high hr, almost too fast to count, it is likely "racing" or abnormal. If you have concerns it is best to ask your doctor and appropriate testing can be done as indicated.

Why has my heart been racing on and off?

SVT: The most common cause is something called supraventricular tachycardia. I get this if i let myself get out of good aerobic shape. A physician's office visit is in order, for treatment and to rule out something more troublesome.

LOTS of reasons: Tachycardia (fast heart beat) can be caused by stress, anemia, infection, fever, dehydration, medication, low blood sugar, hyperthyroidism and many many other causes. Some causes are problems with the heart, others cause your normal to beat too fast. Time to call your doctor and get checked out!
