See a doctor: A chronic cough with mucus is usually due to bronchitis. However, you should see a health care provider.

Unlikely: At 36 yr old cancer will not be the first diagnosis, glad you stopped smoking , cancer of lung is very rare at your age. See your doctor after examination he will get a chest x-ray.Most likely you have bronchitis, or even pneumonia will treat you with a course of antibiotics with cough syrup.
