My gp is treating a parotid abscess with 4000mg augmentin daily, after 2days no improvement, it is extremely painful! could this be a blockage and should i be concerned? i thought this high dose of antibiotics should have worked by now? could it be stone

Go back to your Dr.: An abscess that if failing to resolve needs immediate attention, you should call your doctor to arrange for further care and intervention, asap!

See below: Parotid abscess is usually due to staph. Aureus. If MRSA it would be resistant to augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). The dose of Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) you are taking is too high and inappropriate. See an ENT surgeon to evaluate for an obstructing stone and to drain the abscess. An infectious disease specialist could help you get appropriate antibiotic treatment.
