Both can be: It seems as though both epilepsy and mood disorders can run in families. I wonder if you are being actively treated by a board certified psychiatrist which i recommend. You may benefit from a mood stabilizer like one called Trileptal or oxcarbazapine. It can help with seizures as well. It's cousin-tegretol or carbamazapine my even be more effective. These are good ones and have no wt gain.

Need assesment: Genetic factors contibute substantially to the development of bad, and it is linked to the x. Chromosome, so if any one has family history of bad , this should be ruled out before taking antidepressant medication.

There is a genetic component with a number of psychiatric conditions including Bipolar Disorder. You said you are being treated for clinical depression. Have you made the clinician aware of the mood swings and the anger and raised the question as to the possibility of a Bipolar Disorder (either I or II) particularly with your Dad's history? Discuss with the clinician, proper diagnosis helps
