No: Total cholesterol is made up of "good" cholesterol (hdl), "bad" cholesterol (ldl) and triglycerides.You want high hdl, and low LDL & triglycerides. High cholesterol is caused by genetic factors (your body makes too much cholesterol), dietary intake, and lack of exercise. Exercise has been shown to increase HDL and lower ldl. Salt intake does not impact cholesterol levels.

Not exactly: Excess salt doesn't affect cholesterol per se. However, in america, most of the prepared or packaged food has too much salt anyway. This is all because of the salt institute (a lobby group). Plus, many of these foods have excess cholesterol. So, it's not hard to see why if you consume excess salt, you will also have higher cholesterol. So, cook more of your food and eat more veggies.
