A member asked:

What alcohol can you drink when you have high cholesterol?

Moderate: For a normal healthy individual, the allowed intake is 20 gms ( 14 beers) per week for a male and 14 gms ( 7 beers) per week for a female, approximately. As long as you keep drinking in moderation ( what ever type), even though you have high cholesterol, you will be ok.

Most kinds: Again, how much drinking are we talking about? Alcohol is high calorie, and heavy drinking increases weight in many people, which in turn increases bad cholesterol. Beer has lots of carbs, and some liqueurs (like kahlua) have cholesterol and fat. 1-2 drinks per day may not be harmful and may even raise our good cholesterol, but higher doses elevate blood pressure, bad for general health as well.
