A member asked:

Olympics and sports ent docs, is it safe to fly an 8 hour flight with a swimmer's ear?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably yes: Swimmer's ear is another name for external otitis. This inflammation has nothing to do with ventilation of the middle ear via the eustachian tube. Therefore an 8 hour air flight should have no relation to the inflammation of the skin of the ear canal.
