Chinese: Possibly, especially if you are chinese and can understand that oriental healing philosphy and methods are very different from ours.

Possibly.: Acupuncture and acupressure can often treat symptoms even when the actual cause can not be identified. If you are going to receive medicinals - recommend that the individual have a doctorate in traditional chinese medicine.

Proven vs unproven: By definition, "alternative" is different than modern western medicine. Generally any drug, herb, treatment, or procedure that stands up to rigorous scientific scrutiny is included in modern medicine. The problem is that many alternative practices, herbs etc do not stand up to scientific scrutiny and cannot be shown to work. They therefore remain "alternative". Doctors like proof.
