Yes: A baseline exam to determine any associated problems from myopia is useful especially if things are changing or any new things have come up.

Yearly: If there are no problems found on the first dilated exam, i would have a follow up exam once a year.

Eye exam frequency: I recommend an exam at least every 2 years for those without any medical eye problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration. Otherwise, i recommend an eye exam as indicated the specific eye problem.
A 41-year-old member asked:

How often should I have my eyes checked if I have glaucoma?

Depends: If you have glaucoma, the next important step to determine is whether or not your disease is stable. Oftentimes, stable disease is followed every 3-4 mo if good vision remains, and unstable disease is checked on more frequently. At the beginning with a new provider, visits may be more frequent to have several pressure checks and to get a better idea of your disease.
