How do tooth extractions change the facial structure?

Teeth function: One of the functions of the teeth is to support the lips and the cheeks. Loss of teeth causes collapse of cheeks and lips.

Can be problematic: Teeth & supporting bone are important to facial structure. If teeth & bone are lost & not replaced it can definitely cause facial aging. Much like pulling a big tree out of the ground would leave a large hole, extraction can leave a sunken area. Replace a lost tooth immediately with bone grafting & implant or a bridge to fill in the area that is open due to extraction and protect against this.

Tooth Extraction: Teeth supports your lips and cheeks. In the absence of teeth, the cheeks and lips collapse for lack of physical support. It causes a person to appear older than they are. When a person who lost their teeth gets his mouth reconstructed, it changes their overall appearance and makes them look younger or their actual age.

Bone loss: The more teeth that are extracted the less bone remains unless a bone graft is placed at extraction. The less bone you have, the more sunken the face will become. Always have a tooth extraction replaced with bone augmentation or with an implant.
