Pain and rigidity.: Although the condition is congenital and present early in life, a child may not experience pain until between 8 and 16 years old. The chief symptom is pain which is often recurring ankle pain or unexplained ankle sprains. A child may experience rigidity and stiffness in around the ankle, and a decreased range of motion.
