Not recommended: The combination of the these two medications together can potentially increase levels of serotonin which can lead to serotonin syndrome which can be life threatening.

Drug interaction: It is not recommended to mix tramadol with antidepressants such as Amitriptyline due to increased risk of developing serotonin syndrome which can be a life threatening conditions. Please talk to your doctor before taking these medications together.

Take Genetic Test: You might be able to take both low dose Amitriptyline and low dose tramadol for pain, depending on your genetics. You can have (cheek swab) pharmacogenomic tests done at the doctor's office (e.g. Assurex, genomind) to determine how you metabolize psychiatric and pain meds. In this way, your doctor can determine what will be a wise course of treatment. Consider tms for pain.
