Wound care: For a recent wound, keep it clean, apply small amount of antibiotic ointment, and keep covered (don't let it dry out). I recommend skinmedica scar recovery gel for my patients. For older scars, scar revision or derm abrasion may help. Discuss with a local facial plastic surgeon to get recommendations for your specific situation.

Scar prevention. : After an injury, preventing prominent scars is best accomplished by careful closure of the laceration and treatment of the wound site. Depending on the location, additional procedures like scar excision, scar repositioning, dermabrasion, or laser resurfacing help to camouflage or hide the scar. Avoid sun exposure to prevent additional redness and pigment changes. See also "silicone gel sheeting".
