Removal of gum : Gingivectomy is the removal of gum tissue. It is usuall done when there is overgrowth of tissue, infection or if you have a cavity below the gum line the gum is removed so that the dentist has access to fix it. Gingivectomies are sometimes done just for cosmetics.
