Anxiety: Most doctors prescribe ssris based on research data & their own experience, at least initially. If limited response, several add-on options are available depending on anxiety type, such as clonidine, vistaril, inderal, (propranolol) trileptal, etc. If that fails, changing from augmentation to switching is an option. Non-pharmacological: options are also available. Talking therapy ranks really high. Cognitive Behavioral therapy or psychotherapy can be effective. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night & good nutrition w 5 servings of veggies & 4 of fruit per day. Try tai chi, yoga, Qi Gong, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing exercises & meditation. Don't isolate - spend time w friends & stay active.
