Get a 2nd opinion: I typically think of triptans, such as maxalt, (rizatriptan) as abortive therapy rather than preventive. The american academy of neurology recently came out w/evidence based guidelines on what to use to prevent migraines. Check out http://www.Neurology.Org/content/78/17/1337.Abstract for prescription options & http://www.Neurology.Org/content/78/17/1346.Abstract for non-prescription options.

Depends: This is a decision to be made between physician and patient. Many factors are involved. This is a great question to ask your prescriber as well as your pharmacist.
