May be a nerve: I would be more concerned about dragging the foot than pain. If you are having weakness then you may have a nerve problem in the leg or possibly even from the low back. It sounds like you need a better work up. I would discuss a consult to a physiatrist or neurologist. If the work up leads towards an intrinsic foot problem then you may be better served by a podiatrist.

Nerve problem: This is probaby due to a pinched nerve in the top of the foot or a severe tedonitis causing weakness to the foot and preventing the foot from being able to be lifted. Please see your podiatrist right away, before this progressess.

Get re-evaluated: Pain could be as a result of many different things. One would need to do a thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams to determine the exact cause. Have it re-evaluated and voice your concerns.
