Better=good sign: 2-3 wks is the typical time repuired to heal a common back/abd strain/sprain. Sprain involves ligament, strain involves muscle/tendons. The more severe the injury, the long it will take to heal. Also, it depends on your state of health/nutrition status as well as appropriate rest/therapy. Getting better =good, thus just take it easy to allow compete healing. Don't rush it. Good luck.

Probably not: As someone who trains in mma and as a doc who has treated fighters in pride, ufc and strikeforce, i know what it's like to strain your abs! it can take up to weeks before the pain goes away, and at that time your abs are going to be noticeably weaker. As long as you continue to get better i would probably not worry, but if it continues for > 6 weeks and hurts during training, i would see a doc.

Wouldn't worry.: Muscular injuries can take as many as six weeks to heal, assuming other people aren't repeatedly kicking and punching the healing muscle. You may want to lay off the contact/sparring part of your training for the next month or so.
