Maybe: Clearly you have to ensure that he will not drown. The other issue with a newborn is to make sure that he are not going to sunburn, as their skin is very pale, and does not protect him from much sun. So, use sunscreen if you are going to be out for very long. As to how he react to the water, he just spent 9 months under water, and should be ok on that part of it.
